Catholic Education Week - Thursday May 6, 2021

Today we celebrate “Harvesting New Fruit”: The experience of the last year has helped us realize that things will never again be like they were before. But that may not be a bad thing, because the earth was in need of healing. Perhaps this pandemic can be part of an ecological conversion – a harvest of change – that will lead us to ask what it will be like for our descendants seven generations from now.

Prayer

O powerful God,
You are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.

Amen.

During the current pandemic, Pope Francis’ letter Laudato Si' can provide the moral and spiritual compass for the journey to create a more caring, fraternal, peaceful and sustainable world. As the announcement of the Special Anniversary Year of Laudato Si’ tells us, “Truly, COVID-19 has made clear how deeply we are all interconnected and interdependent. As we begin to envision a post-COVID world, we need above all an integral approach as everything is closely interrelated and today’s problems call for a vision capable of taking into account every aspect of the global crisis.”
